The iliopsoas issues and dysfunction is common among athletes. Runners are at higher risks. Therefore, to avoid developing iliopsoas issues, we encourage stretching the iliopsoas before athletic activity. 

Dynamic Stretch for Iliopsoas 

Stand near a wall or other supporting object to stabilize the body during the stretch. Flex the hip and knee, bring the knee as close to the chest as possible while keeping the lower back straight. Then get the hip into extension with an additional force exerted at the end of the hip extension. Perform this motion for 15 seconds and repeat the same procedure on the opposite leg. The trunk needs to be upright. Avoiding internal and external rotation of the hip throughout the whole stretching exercises is necessary to prevent injury and isolate the iliopsoas muscle.

Iliopsoas Treatment By Static Stretch 

Start in the lunge position with the leg of the iliopsoas being stretched behind the body with the knee slightly bent. Slowly lower the hips until you a moderate stretch is felt in the iliopsoas muscle. While in this position with the iliopsoas elongated, oscillated downwards for 15 seconds. Maintain the stretch for 30 seconds.
