Ligaments that surround your spinal joints (spinal facets) are known as facet capsular ligaments. A facet capsular ligament surrounds and encloses the articular joints of the spine to ensure stability and proper alignment. The most critical ligament in the spine is the spinal disc, followed y ligamentum flavum. Ligamentum flavum is a highly specialized ligament with contractile abilities.
Ligamentum flavum is the only ligament that also functions like a muscle. The ligamentous rule of ligamentum flavum is to connect vertebrae.
